The Kano State Executive Council (SEC) has approved a total of ₦19,019,114,578.50 for the execution of new and ongoing projects across critical sectors of the state’s economy, including education, health, water resources, power, infrastructure, and housing.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, following the 33rd Executive Council Meeting held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Government House, Kano, and presided over by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to the statement, the meeting “deliberated on critical issues of governance and development affecting the state” and, after careful consideration, approved over ₦19 billion “for the execution of projects across various sectors of the state economy.”
The education sector received the largest portion of the funds, with ₦4.93 billion earmarked for projects under the Ministry of Education and the Ministry for Higher Education.

These include the settlement of ₦1.49 billion debts owed to boarding school feeding suppliers and ₦2.54 billion for the renovation of Government Technical College, Ungogo (Phase II).
Other approvals include:
- ₦308.9 million for liabilities owed to the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS),
- ₦139 million for instructional materials produced by the Kano Printing Press,
- ₦400 million for office furniture and fittings at Northwest University, and
- ₦270.9 million for the completion and furnishing of the E-Library at Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies.
In the health sector, the council approved ₦274 million for renovation and upgrades of key facilities. This includes ₦109 million for Tiga General Hospital and ₦164 million for Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital, Kofar Kudu.
The Ministry of Water Resources received ₦3.33 billion to enhance water supply and energy management. Major allocations include:
- ₦915 million for a new water treatment plant at Taliwaiwai in Rano LGA,
- ₦1.75 billion for payment of fuel debts for water treatment plants, and
- ₦670 million to settle electricity bills owed to KEDCO.

For works and infrastructure, a whopping ₦9.85 billion was approved for road construction, flood control, and urban projects. Key approvals include:
- ₦2.63 billion for the Dambatta–Gwarabjawa Road,
- ₦2.47 billion for installation of four-way intersection traffic lights,
- ₦388 million for flood control at Baban Gwari Roundabout,
- ₦339 million for solar-powered streetlights at Kwankwasiyya City,
- ₦277 million for renovation of Audu Bako Secretariat (Phase II),
- ₦810 million for road studs across Kano metropolis, and
- ₦135 million for solar streetlights at Ado Bayero Square and Sabon Gari.
The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy got ₦979 million, including ₦840 million for a 150KW solar backup system at Africa House, Government House.
The council also approved ₦149 million for 2026 Hajj operations under the State Pilgrims Welfare Board, and ₦126 million for the procurement of three Toyota Hilux vehicles under the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
In the Ministry of Mineral Resources, ₦586.5 million was approved for the construction of weighbridges at Doguwa and five other major entry points into Kano.

On housing, the council endorsed the construction of 50 low-cost houses across the 36 local government areas outside the metropolis to “provide affordable housing for low-income earners.”
Waiya also disclosed that the council approved the acquisition of majority shares in KEDCO, aimed at achieving energy sufficiency and boosting economic inclusion.
Additionally, the Kano State Electricity Policy was formally adopted under the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, setting the stage for a more sustainable and self-reliant power framework.
The statement further noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently received seven national and international awards in recognition of his leadership and service to humanity.
