The KSADP–SAA Media Field Day (MFD) entered its third day on November 27, 2025 with a tour of agricultural mechanisation centres in Kura and Bunkure Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State, where beneficiaries showcased how project–supported equipment is revolutionising farming practices across communities.

Project Coordinator, Abdurrashed Hamisu, said the visit was designed to “see firsthand how beneficiaries are test-running these facilities so we know where to provide more support and how to strengthen the utilisation of the machines.”

In Kode Village, Bunkure LGA, a beneficiary of the combine harvester, Muntari Rabiu, described the support as a dramatic turnaround in his livelihood. “This is a turning point for me and my family because my income has improved.

“My farmer colleagues also enjoy how I tilt their land at a very affordable price,” he said. Rabiu added that the equipment is transforming rice processing in the area, supporting 6 to 7 workers daily. “Before we were given this facility, we could only make N100,000 a day as a team, but now with this innovation, an hour is enough to make N350,000,” he said.

In Chiromawa, Garun-Malam LGA, agro-stockist beneficiary Basiru Alasan said he experienced unexpected growth in both business capacity and personal life after receiving support. “I witnessed progress in different aspects of life coming as a surprise. I was shortlisted without knowing any staff from the project officials,” he said.

Another beneficiary, Ya’u Zakari Abdullahi from Kura LGA, who received a welding kit, said the support has expanded his opportunities. “This is life-changing. Now I can sponsor my children to post-secondary schools,” he said.

The MFD continued on Day 4 with an interface with more beneficiaries as the five-year KSADP–SAA project, funded by the IsDB and LLF, nears completion. Project Coordinator Abdurrashid Hamisu emphasised that the initiative was carefully designed to uplift the most vulnerable across the 44 LGAs of Kano State.

“For one to fight poverty properly, we need to go down to the base using every possible means,” he said, noting that beneficiaries were selected based on need and potential for impact.” He said.

At Sabon Gida community in Gwarzo LGA, the team inspected an aerated onion storage facility operated by beneficiary Suleman Ibrahim. Engineer Sadiq, who oversees the vegetable value chain and nutrition components, explained that onion is a major focus of SAA’s interventions due to high post-harvest losses affecting farmers.

The 15-metric-ton facility, with chambers that hold 25 bags each, enables farmers to preserve onions for up to six months during dry seasons.

“My indulgence was craved to apply for this project, and after meeting the requirements, the plant was installed for me,” Suleman said, noting that he stores his produce while offering subsidised storage to others.

In Gulu, Rimin Gado LGA, a milling machine beneficiary, Hannatu Muhammad, said her life has transformed dramatically. “My life and that of my family have changed.

We are now financially independent, we can take care of our needs with the funds we get from milling grains for people. This milling machine was installed for me without me giving anything,” she said.

A 23-member women farmers group in Gwanji town of Dawakin Tofa LGA also showcased their power tiller support. Group leader, Maimuna Yunusa, expressed gratitude for the empowerment.

“We harvested rice, maize, and soybeans during the rainy season, and we distributed our profit among members for personal use,” she said, adding that the innovation has eased their labour burden. “We used to go to our farms in large numbers to labour very little, but now we harvest largely with no stress.”

So far, the KSADP–SAA project has distributed 43 power tiller machines to farmer groups, mostly women, across Kano State, marking a significant milestone in modernising agriculture and improving livelihoods at the grassroots.

The KSADP–SAA project has proven transformative, empowering farmers and women across Kano State with modern equipment, financial independence, and improved agricultural practices.

Beneficiaries unanimously credit the project for raising incomes, reducing labour, and enhancing community livelihoods, demonstrating the lasting impact of targeted interventions in rural development.
