Rivers United have received cash rewards totalling N2 million and $2,000 following their impressive start to the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season and their campaign in the CAF Champions League.
The Pride of Rivers earned N2 million after defeating Plateau United 2-0 in their NPFL opening fixture.
Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Barrister Chris Green, rewarded the team with N1 million for each goal scored in the victory.
The Port Harcourt-based club also received a $2,000 bonus following their 1-1 draw against FC San Pedro of Côte d’Ivoire in the first leg of their CAF Champions League first preliminary round tie.
The state government commended the players and officials for their performances and for representing Rivers State and Nigeria positively on both the domestic and continental fronts.
The financial incentives are aimed at motivating the squad as Rivers United continue to juggle their NPFL commitments with their continental campaign.
The club will now focus on the second leg against FC San Pedro in Ikenne, with a place in the second preliminary round at stake.
