The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his reported claim that he could not afford medications for his late mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi.
The APC, in a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described Amaechi’s reported financial difficulties as troubling, given his long years in public office.

The party said it prayed for the repose of the soul of Amaechi’s mother and wished the former governor “excellent health of mind and body,” while also taking a swipe at his financial circumstances.
Amaechi, who served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and later as governor of the state before becoming Minister of Transportation, is currently the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The APC alleged that Amaechi had previously spoken about being financially constrained and claimed that his wife had been feeding him because of his inability to provide for himself.

According to the party, Amaechi’s reported inability to afford his mother’s medication after leaving public office raised questions about his financial preparedness and capacity to earn a living outside government.
The APC further alleged that Amaechi had spent decades occupying public offices and accused him of seeking the vice-presidency in 2027 to return to what it described as dependence on public resources.
“The presidency is not a soup kitchen, and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi,” the party said.

Morka argued that Amaechi’s own reported statements about his financial situation constituted, in the APC’s view, evidence of his unsuitability for the vice-presidential position.
The APC concluded by questioning Amaechi’s fitness for higher public office ahead of the 2027 general election.
